  • In 2004, Japan’s Fujitsu Laboratories and Fujitsu Frontech launched a service-type robot with various capabilities adept to different working environments. It has the ability to greet guests, guide visitors to elevators, operate elevators, and even moves carts.

Fujitsu’s service-type robot has the ability to move independently in a certain location with the capacity to avoid obstacles along its way. This was made possible with the inclusion of a map of the location that is preprogrammed in its system.

This robot is able to move around utilizing any two of the eight cameras that are included in the system. The central pattern generator (CPG)/numerical perturbation (NP) that was developed by Fujitsu gives this service robot the capacity to hold objects and hand them to humans.

Equipped with multiple microphones, this service robot is able to respond to calls by detecting the source and direction of the sound. It is programmed to self-charge when its system has detected that its battery is low. Armed with a wireless LAN, this robot is also able to connect to the Internet, research information, and present it to the user.
