The Shadow Robot Company created a robot called Shadow Biped whose skeletal frame is made up of wood upon which its muscles and equipment are mounted. Its British developer said that using wood proved to be quite cost effective and very durable. Maple wood was their ideal choice due to its fine consistency, allowing the Shadow Robot Company to manipulate it with ease.
Although this award-winning robot is the company’s longest running project, its development was eventually stopped. Without the technologies used on this humanoid, the company's Shadow technologies may not have been realized.
