Shinpo is regarded as one of the milestones in humanoid technology as it was the first humanoid robot to walk with straight knees. It was developed by Japan’s Tmsuk in collaboration with Atsuo Takanishi’s Laboratory in 2005. The robot was created on order by the Niigata Prefecture Hall of Natural Science. Since its delivery to this place, it has been on a permanent exhibit.
The robot has the capacity to move its wrists and fingers by threes. This gave the robot the ability to play Janken, the Japanese version of paper-rock-scissors game, which requires the fists to be clenched and the peace sign to be formed. This two-legged walking robot is able to climb stairs and carry things with mass of 60 to 90 Kg.
