    Silf H2 is the continuation of the humanoid project Silf H1. After winning the RoboCup in Japan in 2000, Katsuhisa Ito continued with Silf H1 and redefined it – leading to the creation of a newer model which was called Silf H2.

    Silf H2 is regarded as a hobbyist’s robot. It has 21 degrees of freedom (DOF), 7 more from its predecessor. Ito designed the robot for micro-mouse style maze competitions, thus its head was composed of a CCD that was reconstructed from a cellular phone. This feature allowed it to navigate simple environments.

    The body of Silf H2 was made from various custom-built parts, giving it an edge over other hobby robots. The camera’s microchip used in the robot’s head was purposely-engineered by Ito to fit it inside a modified USB cable dongle.

    The undeniable charm of Silf H2 made it win various awards at RoboCup tournaments, primarily due to its capability to walk fast and jump. The robot was prominently featured on the cover of the September 2004 issue of Industrial Automation. Silf H2 was shown along with QRIO and Asimo.
