  • Toyota launched a robotic leg called Toyota Hopper that can hop and jump around like that of a human. This sophisticated robotic leg, which was unveiled in September 2006, can literally jump as high as 1.6 inches. Unlike the traditional jumping robots that mimic a pogo stick, this robotic leg from Toyota maintains its balance and does not fall over. Its 3.3 feet leg has a joint attached to each toe, allowing it to bend and stretch with its knee-like joints.

The Japanese company hopes that the technology they applied to the leg can be utilized on a two-legged robot. Several reports say that Toyota was planning to develop a two-legged robot in the coming years. With the advanced technology that they have used, robots can and will be able to run faster and navigate uneven terrains with relative ease.

    Features:

    • Can stay upright autonomously
    • Jumps and hops as high as 1.6 inches
    • Individual joints attached to its toes
