The paint is dark black, as opposed to the gritty steel grey color in the pictures. I suggest when you get this,unscrew the pommel and put a washer between the handle and the pommel,it'll keep you from cracking the handle like I did when I had to tighten the pommel. If you plan to do more than hang on wall, you will need to reinforce, retighten, and wrap with your own leather. Cant tell you about "quality" of the metal as it will be months before im strong enough to use them for the cardio and strength training I bought them for. A must buy for any 300 fan. Massive 1/4" thk blade 25" long. 182.27, 243.03 The leather wrapping on the handle comes off really easily, so be prepared to re-glue it or replace it with something sturdier. I think it's dumb that they didn't include the sheath but I already ordered it. It's 1/4 inch thick and 1/2 thick at the ridge. I would not recommend this to anyone.
